New Vehicle Inspection Center Opened

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia’s 22nd Vehicle Inspection Center opened in Phnom Penh’s Sen Sok district this morning, 21 April 2023. Senior Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Sun Chanthol, presided over the inauguration ceremony.

A representative of Cambodia Motor Vehicle Inspection, Duy Di Rabee, said that her company currently has six vehicle inspection centers in Phnom Penh and 13 centers in the provinces, as well as three mobile vehicles to provide inspections to provinces that do not yet have checkpoints.

"CMVIC has been inspecting vehicles since 2000, when there was only one inspection center," she said. In 2016, the company began to expand its series of branches.

Senior Minister Sun Chanthol, said that the establishment of the technical inspection center will help reduce wait-times for those who want to bring their car in for inspection.

He said, "We do everything in accordance with the instructions and recommendations of Prime Minister Hun Sen. We as servants of the people must provide the necessary public services in a manner which is effective, transparent and quick."

The Senior Minster requested that car owners be sure to have their vehicles inspected for technical specifications in order to avoid fines and other accidents caused by oversight.

According to the ministry, around 153,000 vehicles have not been inspected, which is about 14% of the total cars used in Cambodia.
